Okay, so I'm working on my piano ';homework'; and one of the things my teacher asked me to do in my one piece was to highlight phrasing. What exactly, in kid term, is phrasing? How would I highlight it? How do I recognize it?How do I highlight a phrase in my sheet music?
Phrasing has to do with places where the musical ';lines'; begin and end (where a melody hits its climax, where it begins to resolve, etc.)
Often, especially if the music you're looking at is more ';traditional,'; good things to look for are slurs, crescendos (sometimes called ';hairpins'; because of their appearance,) and diminuendos (which are the opposite.)
