How do I shut off the iTunes mini store (when you highlight your own music)?

Go to the view menu and look at the 3rd item down. It should give you the option to shut off the iTunes mini store. After you shut it off, you can go back to that menu and the command will have changed to allow you to turn it back on. For a Mac, the keyboard shortcut to hide/show the mini store is shift + command + M. For a PC, I believe it should be shift + ctrl + M but I'm not 100% sure. The keyboard shortcut should be listed beside the menu item. Hope this solves your problem =)
