Oscar gets in the slavery and enamel business because it's good, easy money and that is what he came to Poland to find. The epiphany scene (on horseback) is quickly followed by a brief shot of Oskar sitting alone in his office, in silhouette, smoking a cigarette, and looking over mounds and mounds of enameled pots.
