Why does the film 'the prestige' highlight where the events are taking place.?

How is this significant to viewers. Why does the film 'the prestige' highlight where the events are taking place.?
Not entirely sure but i presume it's to do with Bales diary.

He lets Jackmans character have his diary and the key phrase to unlock the it's secrets so that Jackman will travel from Britain to the states, to find Tesla, so that Bale can live the next few years of his life without looking over his shoulder. Why does the film 'the prestige' highlight where the events are taking place.?
Well a couple of the characters are historically well known..as

Serbian inventor, Tesla [played by English pop singer/actor ..David Bowie.in ';The Prestige'; ] and the more famous American inventor Edison. The cross Atlantic rivalry is patent to the ';double act'; and the simultaneous invention of electrical current systems.(AC %26amp; DC.)

The story like the magic act satisfies the viewers if, a suspension of disbelief is established i.e.- a plausible, believable or seemingly accurate background is set in motion.

And as Michael Caines' character himself explains, in the film- the three part nature to the performance.

The locations are in context to the characters portrayed in c. 1800's.

The switch is in the flux of the events, travel and jailbreak.

And the resultant effect the taa daaah ! of the trick, is the Prestige.

I did enjoy both the movie and this question.
